San Francisco for Afisha, a Russian travel & lifestyle magazine

Had a really fun shoot several months ago for a gorgeous Russian travel magazine. I really wish I could read the magazine but my Russian is limited to...my name is and nice to meet you. A big gracious thank you to picture editor Dana Rakhimbekova for assigning me, and writer Xenia Grubstein for a great shoot!

I look foward to photographing more stories for them whether in San Francisco, or maybe....Brazil? Wherever I will be... :0)

The story is told through a San Francisco resident. Over three days, the writer and I followed wherever he lead, showing us The City through his eyes. If you live in San Franciso, try & guess where some of these places are. 

Can someone translate what my bio says! And this is my dog! Reese. We often do photo shoots together (clearly he's far more photogenic then I) but this is the first time he's been published! 

Dos Erres Massacre trials

In late March, on my first day back in Guatemala after a couple months a friend called and said hurry come to Tribunales...ex-paramilitary soldiers are on trial for a massacre. So I hoped in a cab and rushed over there. I knew a little about Dos Erres. There are so many stories from the war. It is estimated that about 626 separate massacres during the 36-year civil war that killed about 200,000 people. 

I nearly missed this story by This American Life which compelled me to look back at my trial pictures. I've listened to the story three times...its unbelievable. The story goes: "In 1982, the Guatemalan military massacred the villagers of Dos Erres, killing more than 200 people. Thirty years later, a Guatemalan living in the US got a phone call from a woman who told him that two boys had been abducted during the massacre -- and he was one of them."
