A weekend in Mexico City

The first time I traveled to Mexico City was during the swine flu in 2009. The city was shut down. Streets and sidewalks empty, and all stores and restaurants closed. I was curious to know what the city was like on a normal day, and last weekend a friend and I had a chance to play tourists and see the sites, which also included the annual Gay Pride Parade and a Mexico vs USA soccer match.

Guanajuato, Mexico

I spent a couple days in Guanajuato researching a new project. This is one of the most precious towns I have ever been too. This old mining town is a labrynth of little alleyways and cobblestone streets, colorful buildings and music that echoes throughout this colonial and romantic city. here are a few snaps...

War and Fleece for Mother Jones Magazine

Its hot off the presses, get the latest issue - July/August - of Mother Jones Magazine featuring a story I photographed on shady unaccredited financial planners and insurance brokers who target aging veterans in the US using clever business names to lure seniors and deplete their pensions. I photographed a very sweet couple for the story, Ruth, 87, and Willard, 93. And my thoughts are with them as they continue to work with their lawyer in civil court and go after the men who took advantage of them and their finances.

And thanks to picture editor Mark Murrmann who keeps putting food on my table by assigning me these interesting stories to photograph.

Foster Care for the Wall Street Journal

Here's a story for the Wall Street Journal in which Alameda County (in northern California) will provide more help to older foster care teens as they make the transition to adulthood. This is Monique, who is 20 yrs old, and works part-time manager at an Oakland café created by the county to help young people in the foster system gain experience. My assignment was to photography Monique while she worked to highlight the program that she is participates.
