Japantown's New People for the New York Times

This place is amazing...and its the kind of hipster boost Japantown needed to spice it up the old neighborhood. There has been so much happening in Japan over the years - in their arts scene, fashion, music...that we don't hear much of in the mainstream. (maybe thats a good thing). Several of Japan's fashion designers make their first U.S. stop right here in San Francisco. Their designs and clothes are seen very seldom outside of Japan. There's also an all-Japanese cinema, which was featuring a film when i was there so i didn't get to take a peek during my assignment. I was thrilled to receive this assignment, not just because its been years since I've been to the neighborhood, but also to see a bit of modern-day Japan right here in the City.

Lianne's weddings featured in SF Chronicle Magazine

Thanks to colleague Russell Yip at the San Francisco Chronicle my wedding work was featured among other amazingly talented wedding photographers in the San Francisco/Bay Area! Because I'm also an editorial photographer, i do a limited number of weddings per year. Most of my wedding income goes toward financing documentary projects. so know that when you hire me to shoot your wedding, you're also supporting independent, documentary photography! what a good feelin' right?!

angkor butterfly farm -- for the Sunday Times Scotland

 

The lovely angkor butterfly farm in Siem Reap, Cambodia, which helps nearby villagers earn extra income by farming butterflies, was featured in the Sunday Times Scotland. Here's the story by my colleague Fiona MacGregor: Butterfly farm evolves on wing and a prayer.

The pictures were not licensed for the web so there's no pix online to see. But the above picture of the colorful butterflies was one of two pictures published in print.

AAJA National Journalism Award for Five Years Later project

My project on the Fifth Year Anniversary of the Tsunami in Banda Aceh, Indonesia was recently recognized by the Asian American Journalist Association for the National Journalism Awards in Photography. This was a self-funded project, which took me to Aceh Province on the island of Sumatra in the fall of 2009.
