every now and then i'll lift my head from video editing and shoot a couple of assignments. here's a few from last week:

I'm not sure why I thought the peace walk was about Burmese Monks walking across the golden gate bridge...but i suppose it was an esoteric way of doing it in spirit, afterall, the walk was in support of the monks who are in hiding, incarcerated and abused by the govt in Burma. Ah some things are just not so literal like photographing Burmese Monks walking across the Bridge. Instead, hundreds of supporters and a monk did do the walk. as did a couple dozen photographers. while the purpose is significant, the hoards of photographers make it seem ridiculous. anyway, i was one of them. here's some from yesturday morning...

well i decided that I wanted to shoot some news. it was an amazing morning. the city was packed with passionate demonstrations all about the olympic torch and i just need to be out there...shooting. i haven't shot much news lately, if at all. And well actually i haven't shot anything i really cared about in about a month. mostly i've' been burying myself in video editing my mexico project - which is nearly finished - but sometimes, you just have to break out of the safe and secure valley and just get into it...life. its so easy to be lazy here in napa. there's not much going on, not much going on in the communities and you have to dig to find stories. this paper also doesn't cover issues or news stories outside the Valley so I tend to feel very sheltered from the rest of the world and that is scary to me.
so here's what i saw....
so i am finally posting some pictures with a bam and its wednesday, 10.52pm and i'm soooo tired with still much work to do. but i need a break. so here are some pictures i shot for a Real Napa, sunday features section, page. the story? well it was friday, and 5pm and i had no story for real napa. i forgot. ah well, so its napa. and not to panic. i noticed the light was gettn good. and since i dont' get to shoot much about the light and freely that i quickly jumped in the truck and headed towards napa's old highway, old sonoma road. sometimes, when i drive i take mental notes of where i'd like to shoot in case something comes up. more often than not i forget, but this time i didn't. i was curious. and in need of some pictures. the theme was spring and all things changing. and oh boy so was this light.

Hey there,
I have my first photography exhibit on Sunday, May 4, around 4ish pm at the Ceja Tasting Salon in Napa. The theme is based from a picture I shot of two school girls. On the gate of their school someone had written, in chalk, "aqui somos puro rojo" which roughly means, we are indigenous here. Most of the pictures that will be shown in the exhibit were taken in and around Quetzaltenango, Guatemala in 2003. There's so much more to photograph there, incredible stories. One of the sons of the Ceja family asked if I wanted to show my work. I decided to go with this because it fit the genre of art and photography they want to exhibit in their space.
For anyone following my blog, keep a watch because I will send out more details and exact times. So come see me! Drink good wine, i tell ya its so yummy its addictive, and good music!
